Hardwood Floor Refinishing & Sanding

Hardwood Floor Refinishing & Sanding in Memphis, TN

Bring tired hardwood floors back to life. Dustless sanding, custom stain matching, and a finish system that holds up to real-world wear.

Why Refinish Instead of Replace?

Most older Memphis-area homes were built with red oak strip flooring that's worth saving. A proper sand-and-refinish costs a fraction of what replacement does, preserves the character of your home, and a well-finished floor can last another generation. We can also fix damaged sections, repair pet stains, and weave in patch boards where carpet tack strips left their mark — all before the new finish goes on.

Dustless Sanding That Actually Works

We use HEPA-filtered dust containment systems on the sander, edger, and buffer. There's still some residual dust — anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling — but the difference between our process and traditional sanding is night-and-day. You can usually live in part of the home during the work, and cleanup at the end is minimal compared to old-school methods.

Stain Matching and Finish Selection

We do test samples on your actual floor before committing to a stain — different wood ages, different lighting, different surrounding finishes all change how a stain reads. Once you've picked a color, you choose between oil-based finish (warm amber tone, very durable, longer dry times), water-based (clearer, low-odor, faster), or hardwax oil for a natural matte look. We talk through the tradeoffs honestly so you pick what fits your household.

Common Questions

How long does refinishing take?

Most refinishing jobs take 3-5 days depending on size and number of finish coats. Floors are walkable in 24 hours but you'll want to keep area rugs and heavy furniture off for 7-14 days while the finish fully cures.

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on square footage, the condition of the floors, the stain and finish you choose, and any repairs needed. Free in-home estimate gives you an accurate written quote.

Can you change the color of my floors?

Yes — we can go darker easily, and we can lighten in many cases by stripping the existing stain. Some species (especially red oak) take certain stain colors better than others; we'll show you actual samples before you commit.

How many times can a floor be refinished?

Most solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished 4-6 times over its lifespan, depending on how aggressively previous sandings removed wood. Engineered hardwood typically allows 1-2 refinishings depending on the wear-layer thickness.
